Enjoy free time to hike by glaciers, shop for native art, or have a craft Alaskan brew; leave the stress of travel and planning to us!

We will provide guests with upscale lodging at every destination, gourmet meals, and travel by both road and sea. Our route will take us from Juneau up the Lynn Canal, which forms the tiptop of the famous Inside Passage, as our ferry sails underneath striking waterfalls and past packs of sea lions. Once in Haines, we will explore wildlife preserves and native villages, canoe on pristine lakes and taste some of Alaska’s finest spirits at the local distillery. Our journey continues north on gorgeous scenic byways, the Haines Highway and the Alaska Highway, as we head through Kluane National Park to picturesque Whitehorse. We will explore First Nations culture and heritage on our travels south to the gold-rush boomtown of Skagway, where scenic train rides, float trips down the Taiya River, and history await us. We finish where we began, in the beautiful coastal capitol of Juneau, having explored the best of Southeast Alaska and the Yukon.

JUNEAU

Downtown Juneau: Juneau is nestled in a beautifully unique landscape of temperate rainforest, glaciers, glacially-carved valleys, ocean, and islands. Downtown Juneau is a perfect mixture of modern city, native culture, and Last Frontier coastal town. Enjoy shopping, museums, art, and exquisite Alaskan cuisine along the waterfront. With ocean views, looming snow-capped peaks, and glaciers surrounding the city, you won’t have look far for the perfect picture!

Mendenhall Glacier Trek & Paddle: The Mendenhall Glacier, one of the most beautiful and easily accessible glaciers on the continent, sits just 13 miles away from downtown Juneau, making it one of the most popular and praised destinations in the city. The beautiful blue glacier is nearly a half-mile wide and boasts ice almost 1,800 feet deep; as part of the 1,500 square mile Juneau Icefield, the Mendenhall is in good company. We will have a chance to paddle canoes across the pristine waters and hike across the glacier for unobstructed photos of this natural wonder.

Whale Watching on the Fjordlands: When we board the Fjordlands ferry for a very scenic transfer to and from Juneau, we’ll get much more than just a boat ride. Whale watching comes hand-in-hand with this ferry trip, as our seasoned captains navigate the waters around Juneau to find the most likely places to encounter whales! The Fjordlands ferry is great way to see Alaska's Inside Passage. Some of the wildlife you may encounter besides whales include a stellar sea lion rookery, harbor seals, nesting bald eagles, and porpoises. While sailing, you will be able to enjoy the majestic mountains, waterfalls, and glaciers. You will also get the chance to snap some pictures of Eldred Rock Lighthouse, the oldest original lighthouse in Alaska!

Eldred Rock Lighthouse: Eldred Rock Lighthouse is the oldest original lighthouse in all of Alaska! Built in 1905, historians believe that its larger-than-standard size helped keep it maintained and in service for much longer than many other lighthouses along Alaska’s rugged coast. In fact, it is the only station never to be rebuilt. Constructed to alleviate the multitude of shipwrecks along the route during the Gold Rush, the lighthouse is most famous for being the site of the wreck of the Clara Nevada, said to be carrying nearly 800 pounds of gold.

HAINES

Downtown Haines: Haines is a picture-perfect fishing town of about 2,500 people. It offers incredible wildlife viewing and outstanding outdoor adventures. Haines hosts a rich cultural history with Fort Seward, one of the first military forts in Alaska, and is only 20 miles from the native Tlingit village of Klukwan. Take a stroll down the main street, or head to the waterfront Fort Seward for smoked salmon, Tlingit art, or a beachside hike.

Inside Passage Kayaking: You will paddle with our knowledgeable tour guides from our private beach along the longest and deepest fjord in North America. Experience beautiful views of the Lynn Canal, Chilkat Mountains, and Haines as we paddle these pristine waters. Plus, enjoy opportunities to see marine wildlife from your tandem kayak: we have seen eagles, sea lions, seals, Dall porpoise, humpback whales or other marine wildlife along the fjord! Your guide will be an expert naturalist and Haines resident, and will share their extensive knowledge about the fjord, marine wildlife, and local geography. We will stop off at a remote beach to stretch your legs and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Southeast Alaska. (If weather conditions are not suitable to sea kayaking, then we will head to our backup location on Chilkoot Lake.)

Port Chilkoot Distillery Tasting: No trip to Haines is complete without a stop at the Port Chilkoot Distillery! Renowned for their nationally award-winning spirits and local ambiance, the distillery is a favorite spot for locals and visitors alike. There, you will learn about the history of the distillery, visit the barrel room, and take a private tour of their facility. After the tour, you will sit down for 3 different tastings of fine crafted spirits. In between drinks, you will taste the locally-inspired, tapas-style food from one of the best restaurants in Haines. Examples may include elk meatballs with local basil pesto, salmon cakes with a delicious remoulade, seasonal bruschetta, or a flourless chocolate torte with Sitka blueberry sea salt. Take a bottle home with you as an unforgettable souvenir!

Native Village of Klukwan: Klukwan is one of the largest communities of Tlingits (an Alaska native people group) still in existence, located twenty-two miles north of Haines. Located at the confluence of three glacially fed rivers, this historic village has seen a multitude of generations. For hundreds of years, the Tlingits have lived off the bounty of this special place. Still today, you will see them fishing and smoking their catch at the river's edge. We will have the opportunity to learn and experience the fascinating cultural history of the Tlingit people. Enjoy a native cultural performance and orientation which includes a visit to a Tlingit long house, a visit to the Adze shed to see totem and canoe carving, and to the salmon drying houses. The Heritage Center is situated in a stunningly beautiful location that offers incredible views.

Float Trip Through Bald Eagle Preserve: At the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve, you'll experience the largest gathering of bald eagles in the world! Your specially-trained guides await to begin your rafting adventure (a gentle float, no whitewater!). You’ll float peacefully down the Chilkat River aboard an 18-foot inflatable raft - the best way to observe the eagles drawn to feed on the plentiful salmon. Bears and wolves are also occasional guests at the feast. Not only rich in wildlife, the preserve is also a place of incredible beauty, with towering mountains, hanging glaciers and lush forests. After your hour and a half float, you will enjoy a riverside picnic lunch on the banks of the river.

Chilkat Inlet Coastal Hike: Enjoy this spectacular hiking adventure that immerses you in the remote beauty of Southeast Alaska, where you will be surrounded with amazing mountain, glacier, and ocean views. We’ll drive for about 30 minutes along the Haines Peninsula to Chilkat State Park. Once at the trailhead, the hike begins over rolling terrain through temperate rainforest. Your knowledgeable, naturalist guide will talk about the flora and fauna of the region. The trail is slightly rolling as we make our way towards Moose Meadows, aptly named for the occasional moose seen grazing along the seaside. As we step out onto the beach, we are treated with magnificent glacier views across the fjord. The total hiking distance is about 3-5 miles depending on the group and weather conditions. The trail rises about 100 feet total in elevation. The trail is out and back, so depending on the pace of the group, we may continue south along the coast of the peninsula. We’ll return back through Moose Meadows and make our way back to Haines.

YUKON TERRITORY

Summit Tundra Trek: Explore the strenuous off-trail alpine terrain of wild British Columbia. We will drive north of Haines and over the border into Canada, gaining elevation at our trailhead above treeline. Towering peaks loom in every direction, while glaciers, cascading waterfalls, and rolling tundra enchant us. During the peak of summer, enjoy multitudes of wildflowers! Golden eagles, ptarmigan, snowshoe hares, grizzly bears, and other wildlife frequent these areas.

Kathleen Lake: As we head towards Haines Junction, there are fantastic views of glaciers, cascading waterfalls, and wide expanses of alpine tundra. We will stop at sparkling Kathleen Lake for a picnic-style lunch by crystal-clear water surrounded by snow-capped mountains. We may be treated to blooming wildflowers around the lake in mid-late summer, and in fall, the aspen forests fade to a magical golden glow. A boardwalk skirts the shores for easy accessibility right down to the beautiful waters.

Kluane National Park and Reserve Visitor’s Center:This Yukon Territory National Park is home to a myriad of extremes, from churning whitewater surrounded by snow-capped mountains, Canada’s highest peak (19,550 foot Mount Logan), the nation's largest ice field, and the greatest and most diverse grizzly population in North America. We may be treated to blooming wildflowers around the gorgeous Kathleen Lake in mid-late summer, and in fall, the aspen forests fade to a magical golden glow. Kluane is a wonderland of scenic splendor that travelers from around the globe journey to see each year.

Downtown Whitehorse: Whitehorse, the Yukon Territory’s capital, is considered Canada’s Wilderness City for good reason. With 25,000 people, Whitehorse offers all the amenities of cosmopolitan city with unspoiled wilderness on its doorstep. Nestled between rolling mountains and the banks of the Yukon River, it offers easy access to trails, lakes, rivers, and magnificent mountain views. Downtown Whitehorse showcases both its Gold Rush history and its native cultural roots. Shop for Robert Service books in the land that inspired his many great tales; sip a latte along the banks of the Yukon River. There’s something for everyone in this beautiful frontier city!

Emerald Lake: We will stop to visit one of the most photographed places in the Yukon — the spectacular turquoise-hued Emerald Lake. Carved out by glaciers thousands of years ago, the lake gains its spectacular colors from light reflecting off mineral deposits on the bottom of the shallow lake. The lake changes color as the sun peeks out from the clouds!

Carcross Desert: An anomaly in an alpine world, the Carcross Desert is considered the smallest desert in the world, measuring approximately 1 square mile. Stop by for photo opportunities and a chance to put your feet in this geological anomaly!

Carcross: Carcross, previously known as “Caribou Crossing”, is the self-governed Tagish First Nation’s hometown on the banks of Lake Bennett. Here you will have free time to explore the small local shops located at Carcross Commons (filled with local jewelry, treats, and trinkets) and enjoy great view of the lake made famous by the Klondike Gold Rush. At Matthew Watson General Store, the Yukon’s oldest operating store, you will find a variety of products, from candy sold out of glass jars to regional First Nations arts and crafts, locally made moccasins, mukluks and leathers, or the more modern essentials such as fleece jackets, rain ponchos, mosquito nets and bug repellent. Grab some ice cream or coffee and take a walk along the beautiful sandy beach of Lake Bennett, or explore the wreckage of a gold-rush steamboat!

Biking on Montana Mountain: We will leave the coast behind and climb into the mountains for the mountain biking trip of a lifetime. Montana Mountain (towering at 7200 ft above the First Nations town of Carcross) is a mountain biker’s dream: beautiful new single track along a rolling mountainside with unbeatable views of Lake Bennett and the interior of the Yukon Territory. No uphill necessary - our professional mountain biking guides will shuttle you to the top! Outfitted with top-notch mountain bikes and helmets, you don't want to miss this incredible Yukon experience. As we wind our way through these professionally-built trails, we finish at the edge of Bennett Lake for incredible views and lunch at the world-class Carcross Bistro. Grab a pint of Yukon Brewing beer, relax on the large patio overlooking Carcross and a historic steamship, and dig into a plate of poutine!

SKAGWAY

Downtown Skagway: Wander through the streets of one of the most famous gold rush boomtowns in Alaska’s history. As the Gateway to the Klondike, Skagway was the port town that led up the (in)famous Chilkoot Trail up the White Pass and into the goldfields of the Yukon. With historic storefronts and hotels, and only 1,100 residents, you will feel like you have traveled back in time in this gold-rush era town! Shop for local fare and trinkets, check out our local breweries and distillery, or take a short hike out to Yakutania Point for a gorgeous view of the Upper Lynn Canal.

Rock Climbing in Porcupine Hill: Scale the granite walls of the White Pass! With over a dozen routes, there are climbs for all ability levels. Porcupine Hill, made famous by Jack London’s works, serves as our basecamp for climbing. Your excursion begins with a short interpretative drive through Downtown Skagway and up the Klondike Highway. From the Highway we hike for a few moments to the base of majestic rock cliffs recently smoothed by retreating glaciers. Here we will don rock climbing shoes, helmets and harnesses. After a climbing introduction from our professional climbing guides, we will rope up and start climbing the clean granite. There are more than a dozen routes to choose from. Some climbs are very easy and others offer more challenge. Each ends with a stunning aerial view of the Skagway River, The White Pass Yukon Route Railway, and the surrounding wilderness. This adventure tour is perfect for those looking for their first climbing experience, or for experienced climbers looking for a challenge

Biking on the Dyea Coastal Flats: After a bicycle and safety orientation, your professional bike guide will lead the way over 5 miles of flat terrain through temperate rainforest to the site of the historic boomtown of Dyea. (Easy pedaling along dirt and gravel roads!) Keep an eye out for eagles, salmon, bears, colorful wildflowers, and scenic mountain views.

Scenic Hike & Float on the Taiya River: Escape the crowds of Skagway into the wild Tongass National Forest. Enjoy a beautiful 10-mile drive along the rugged coast of the fjord to the starting point of the historic Chilkoot Trail, the ghost town of Dyea, and the gorgeous Taiya River Valley. You will hike for the first 2 miles of the famed Chilkoot Trail with your naturalist hiking guide, who will regale you with gold rush, local, and natural history. At the end of the 2 mile trek, your professional raft guide will maneuver your raft down the gentle Taiya River, pointing out wildlife, and telling stories of the Gold Rush. Don't forget your camera as snow-capped mountains, hanging glaciers, and wildlife abound! Dyea is a peaceful getaway from bustling Skagway and a perfect opportunity to feel like a part of the great Alaskan outdoors

Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park: The Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park is home to downtown Skagway, the historic Chilkoot Trail, and more! It is a unique national park that spans two states -- Washington (where many gold rushers sailed from) and Alaska (the start of the Gold Rush routes). We will explore the multiple historical buildings, visitor’s centers, and cultural displays that the National Park Service has created to commemorate the trails, boomtowns, and stories of the historic Klondike Gold Rush.
